At least 10 people, most of them young girls, died after a tractor-trolley carrying devotees for Durga idol immersion overturned into a pond in Khandwa district’s Pandhana area on Thursday.
According to officials, the incident occurred when nearly 20–25 people from Ardla and Jamli villages were travelling in the trolley for immersion rituals. The tractor-trolley was parked on a culvert near a pond when it lost balance and overturned, plunging the passengers into the water.
Rescue teams rushed to the site and pulled out 10 bodies so far. Police said the toll could rise as several others are feared trapped. Many of the victims were children. Several people sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Khandwa district hospital.
