As the air turns crisp and the days grow shorter, northern Michigan cyclists know exactly what season it is. Fall means apples and color tours, but for thousands of riders and countless more volunteers and spectators, this time of year signals the return of the Iceman Cometh Challenge.
Each November, cyclists from across the country gather in Traverse City for what has become one of the largest and most celebrated single-day mountain bike races in the nation. The Iceman is a rite of passage, a test of grit, and for many, the grand finale to a long season of riding. For others, it is a bucket-list event that combines the thrill of competition with the joy of camaraderie. The energy is electric and the community pride is unmistakable.
