Shubman Gill, on Thursday, walked out wearing the captain’s blazer for the first time on home soil as India took on West Indies. Though the hosts lost the toss, it turned out to be a good one to lose as Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah went berserk with the ball. The pacers shared 7 wickets among each other to bundle out the visitors to a paltry 162. In reply, India posted 121/2 and were trailing by 41 runs at stumps on the opening day.

West Indies had a couple of successes, managing to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan in quick succession. As Gill walked out to accompany Rahul in the middle, the India skipper received a rousing reception from the Ahmedabad crowd. They ran closer to the staircase through which Gill made his way to the field of play, cheering loudly for the India
