SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

At Sacramento International Airport on Wednesday, the first day of the government shutdown, federal workers showed up for their shifts.

"There's a lot of unknowns, a lot of uneasiness,” said Gilbert Galam, speaking on behalf of the transportation security officers who are members of the American Federation of Government Employees. “Everybody just doesn't know what to do going forward."

Galam, of AFGE Local 1230, said many TSA workers at the airport are living paycheck to paycheck and are nervous that the shutdown will impact their ability to make ends meet.
