MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A second facility in Jefferson County was confirmed to have a flock test positive for avian flu, state agriculture officials said Thursday morning.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection confirmed a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial poultry flock. The affected area has been quarantined.
DATCP said birds on the property will be depopulated to prevent disease spread, and no birds from this flock will enter the food system.
The Jefferson County Health Department told the community that local, state and federal partners are working together with DATCP to protect the public.
DATCP assured residents that the risk to the general public is low.
