PROVIDENCE − An agitated and combative Peter Alviti went on a tear on WPRO radio against unnamed critics who he accused of "lying" about why the McKee administration kept a "forensic audit" of the Washington Bridge failure under wraps.
Talking non-stop past talkshow host Gene Valicenti's attempts to get in a question, Alviti also slammed critics accusing his department of "inaction" on warnings about the potentially dangerous condition of the now-closed westbound span of the Washington Bridge − and other bridges.
The 70-something Alviti, who has been the DOT director since former Gov. Gina Raimondo plucked him out of the Laborers' International Union's project-development ranks, seethed with indignation.
