CHARLOTTE, N.C. — AAA launched a new campaign warning that speeding is as deadly as drunk driving, despite facing far less social condemnation. The campaign, titled "Crashes Hit Different," aims to shift public perception about excessive speed, according to the organization.

Speeding accounted for 29% of traffic fatalities nationwide, while drunk driving was responsible for 30%, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration . Despite the nearly identical figures, speeding receives significantly less public attention than impaired driving, AAA said.
