Yorkshire folk are officially the most dour – but what gets the nation grinning? View Image

A study of 2,000 adults found that Yorkshire and the Humber residents are the most dour in Britain, smiling only 11 times a day on average - the lowest in the country.

In contrast, people in the West Midlands smile the most, averaging 17 smiles daily. North West residents smile 14 times a day, while Londoners average 16 smiles. Overall, Brits claim to smile 14 times a day, but those in the East Midlands are the most likely to report not smiling at all.

Getting good news, hearing a joke and reading something funny were among the most common ways to get people beaming. While grinning at someone and giving a compliment were the top ways Brits try and get someone else to show off their smile.
