SILVERTON, Ohio (WXIX) - An investigation is underway after a young child was shot and brought to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital overnight, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office confirms.

Lt. Jeremy Depaoli told FOX19 NOW that a 5-year-old girl was shot in the 6600 block of Elwynne Drive in Silverton Wednesday at 10:15 p.m.

According to Kyla Woods, director of public engagement with the sheriff’s office, the shooting is believed to have been an “accidental discharge” by the girl’s 6-year-old brother.

The girl was privately taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, Woods says.

The shooting remains under investigation.
