Military leaders deserve applause for silence

We live in an area where evidence of support and admiration for military service members is everywhere.

Striking expressions of this appreciation can be seen in William R. Gaines, Jr, Veterans Memorial Park in Port Charlotte, and at the Vietnam Wall of Southwest Florida in Punta Gorda.

Those of us who respect and honor the service of the military were heartened by the stony silence that greeted the lies and insults hurled by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump at the recent meeting of military leaders held in Quantico Virginia.

From their puzzled expressions, it was evident Hesgeth and Trump were expecting the sort of raucous reaction Trump sees at his rallies.
