PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) -- As "White Cane Safety Day" approaches, Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania (VROCP) is reminding those across the Commonwealth to be aware and safe.
White Cane Safety Day, first proclaimed Oct. 15, 1964, by President Lyndon B. Johnson, is meant to provide a safety reminder and promote courtesy and special consideration for blind people who are navigating America's streets and roadways. Since the first observance, the day has become a celebration of the self-sufficiency of people who are blind or visually impaired and their right to participate in society.
