Delays stacked up on eastbound Interstate 70 in Jefferson County on Thursday after a semitrailer went off the highway and crashed onto Sixth Avenue, according to law enforcement.

As of 12:30 p.m., one lane of eastbound I-70 was closed between C-470 and U.S. 6/Sixth Avenue in Golden, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation .

Officials estimated the closure was causing up to 20-minute delays at that time.

Eastbound U.S. 6 is closed between Johnson Road and U.S. 40, near West Pleasant View, for the crash, state transportation officials said .

The semitrailer was hauling gravel when it went over the bridge onto U.S. 6, state patrol trooper Sherri Mendez told Denver7 . U.S. 6 is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.
