Jenson Brooksby recorded a 7-6 (2), 6-1 victory over Japan's James Trotter on Thursday in their first-round match of the Shanghai Masters.
Brooksby continued his strong form at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in China after reaching the semifinals at the Japan Open earlier this week.
He fired six aces and won 84 percent of his first-serve points to dispatch Trotter in 1 hour, 40 minutes.
Brooksby's second-round opponent will be Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands.
The top-seeded players in Shanghai all received first-round byes, including China Open winner Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. Those two players will not play their opening matches until Friday.
