PLAYER-coach Ben Betts is set to make his Derby debut on Saturday when they return to action in Regional 1 North West.

They are at home against Wirral (3pm), who have won one and lost two so far, like Derby, who are ahead of Saturday's visitors in the standings thanks to two more bonus points.

Betts is part of the new coaching set-up at Haslams Lane after Liam Slatem became head coach in the summer.

“Our forwards player-coach Ben is going to be making his first appearance, which is great because he’s recently come back from shoulder surgery,” said Slatem.

“He brings some great experience, having played at Championship level.

“It’s exciting for him and he can be a motivator for the pack around him, which is great.
