WASHINGTON — It’s day two of the government shutdown and the Senate plans to try again Friday to pass a short-term spending bill to reopen it.
As Republicans and Democrats continue pointing fingers about how we got here, political analyst Stephen Voss said he’ll be watching which way public opinion breaks in the days ahead.
“Neither party wants to be the side that the voters blame for the shutdown. The more the public turns against one of the parties for the shutdown, the more pressure that party will face to make some concessions in order to get a bill passed,” said Voss.
Republicans propose funding the government until the third week of November, mostly at current levels to buy time to work out a deal for the full year.
