Connelly Early will make his first postseason start Thursday when the Red Sox and Yankees play a decisive Game 3 in the American League Wild Card series .

The rookie pitcher will join some longstanding MLB history when he takes the mound at Yankee Stadium.

Connelly, at 23 years and 182 days old, will be the youngest pitcher to start a postseason game since Babe Ruth did so in Game 2 of the 1916 World Series between the Red Sox and the Brooklyn Robins, as noted by MLB.com’s Sarah Langs . Ruth was 21 years and 246 days old.

Early made his MLB debut in September and was called upon to be the starter after Lucas Giolito suffered an elbow injury that will keep him out of the postseason .
