Mike McParland and the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team open this weekend at home against McGill, usually one of the better teams in the nation. One day later, they take on another very tough out, with Trois-Rivieres (UQTR) in town on Saturday.

The Lakers have been moved into OUA’s (Ontario University Association) East Division, which is usually the tougher of the two men’s hockey divisions.

Nevertheless, McParland thinks his club should be on a good footing with the league’s better teams with the club he has recruited.

“I think the class of freshmen that we have brought in is exceptional. We have 11 new guys this year, and I believe all of them can play. They have all looked good in the exhibition season,” says McParland.
