EDMONTON - Alberta Health Minister Adriana LaGrange says the province has recorded its first measles death this year.

She says a child born prematurely died, after the mother contracted measles during pregnancy.

She calls the news heartbreaking.

Ontario reported in June that a premature baby infected with measles had died.

In July, Alberta recorded the most measles cases in North America on a per-capita basis.

The province's website says there have been 1,910 cases since January, with 152 hospitalizations.

More coming.
