People can again stroll among the tombstones through the Oak Hill Cemetery this weekend to learn about some of the most prominent names on the street signs in Hammond.
The Hammond Historical Society will host the 26th Annual Suzanne G. Long Memorial Oak Hill Cemetery Tour from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. People can visit about 20 graves, learning about some of the city's biggest names, including Hohman, Sohl, Reeder and Towle.
Docents and historical interpreters will dress in costume at the cemetery at the northeast corner of 165th Street and Hohman Avenue in Hammond. This year's tour will feature people never before seen on the tours or not visited in recent years, Hammond Historical Society President Tom Logan Novak said.
It will feature a Gilded Age theme since Hammond was founded 140 years
