YouTuber Wasim Akram Arrested for Spying for ISI
Wasim Akram, a YouTuber from Palwal, Haryana, has been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and its High Commission. The arrest took place on October 1, as confirmed by police officials. Akram, who operated a YouTube channel focused on the history of Mewat, allegedly had connections with Pakistani agents for the past three years.
Authorities reported that Akram provided SIM cards to these agents and communicated with them through internet calls. During the investigation, police discovered incriminating WhatsApp messages on his phone, some of which were deleted. The cyber cell is currently working to recover these messages.
The arrest follows the detention of another individual, Taufiq, who was apprehended last week for leaking sensitive information to Pakistan. Taufiq, a resident of Alimev village, reportedly revealed Akram's name during his interrogation. Both men are believed to have been in contact with the ISI and the Pakistan High Commission.
SP Varun Singla has instructed the crime branch to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The Intelligence Bureau is also involved, and further arrests may occur as the investigation continues. Despite Akram's family denying any travel to Pakistan, evidence gathered during the probe suggests he had cross-border links.
Authorities are treating this case seriously, as it follows a similar incident involving another YouTuber, Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested earlier this year for sharing sensitive information with Pakistan.
