Maryland lawmakers and advocates are pushing for change after a teen from Prince George’s County died while in state foster care. She was found dead in a Baltimore hotel where she was being housed temporarily.

Kanaiyah Ward was 16 and had lived in foster care for the past couple of years. An attorney for her family said she struggled with mental health issues and came from a loving, stable home. Her family stayed in touch with her and tried to get her out of the hotel the state placed her in, he said.
