Paul Sinderberry, Condobolin, runs a mix of cropping and livestock, predominantly cattle, and had been using a traditional lucerne and clover-based system.
Speaking at the Parkes Grazing Forum, he said he was looking for an alternative to lucerne to help improve weed control in his crops while also reducing the risk of bloat in his stock.
"It got suggested early on to do a trial, with single species strips, and see what goes well," he said.
There were two front-runners, which he has since adopt
