KENTUCKY, USA — Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear criticized President Donald Trump Thursday for using Kentucky families as a "prop" during the government shutdown.
The shutdown began Wednesday after lawmakers in Congress couldn't reach a deal on a funding bill.
During a shutdown, federal employees in essential roles are required to work while others are furloughed. In both cases, employees will have their paychecks delayed until Congress approves more spending.
Trump has taken this a step further by suggesting federal jobs may be cut during the shutdown. The White House said mass layoffs of federal workers are "imminent" and some could lose their jobs permanently.
