ORISKANY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Federal funding cuts could make it more difficult for law enforcement to protect the public in Onondaga County from the most serious threats. $187 million for counterterrorism threats and other police operations across New York State is now at risk.
"They will de-fund trainings, they will de-fund this Preparedness Training Center, they will de-fund preparedness efforts across the state, as well as response capabilities," Terence O'Leary, the Executive Deputy Commissioner for the NYS Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, said.
Onondaga County is facing a reduction in its funding from approximately $650,000 to $61,000, according to Governor Kathy Hochul's office.
