St. Andrews Lutheran Church hopes to raise $175,000 for its winter homeless shelter for women and families.
The Winter Hospitality Overflow shelter at St. Andrews is open every night between Nov. 1 and the end of March — a feat that requires many volunteers and lots of money. It costs about $195,000 to operate the shelter for those five months.
The Vancouver and Vancouver North Stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and other community members donate food, which covers a portion of the budget, Bauldree said.
Vancouver housing nonprofit Share has provided case management at the winter shelter in the past. But due to uncertainty about funding cuts, community support is needed, Bauldree said.
