Manchester: Police have named a British citizen of Syrian descent as the man who they shot dead outside a Manchester synagogue after he launched a terror attack that left two people dead and four in hospital.

The Greater Manchester Police have also arrested three people they believe aided the horrific attack on worshippers who gathered for Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.

Police named Jihad al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, as the attacker.

“We can confirm that three suspects are currently in custody and have been arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. They are two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s,” the police said in a statement.
