MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - It’s been a year since Hurricane Helene devastated Southwest Virginia and caused millions of dollars in damage. In that time, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure that have been damaged across Southwest Virginia have been rebuilt, and other problems caused by the storm have been addressed.

In Montgomery County, high river levels led to dirty water contaminating the county’s water system, leading to boil water notices that lasted over a week. In the year since, water infrastructure improvements have been made to ensure nothing like that happens again.
