Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson says it was his decision to postpone talks with the FAI about a possible new contract until after the conclusion of the World Cup campaign as he admitted: “I don’t want to be where I’m not wanted”.
When the FAI recruited the former Iceland coach last year, his contract included the Nations League campaign and ended when Ireland’s involvement in the 2026 World Cup was over.
