Michael Carrick been appointed as a technical observer for UEFA amid a potential return to Manchester United.

Since retiring from professional football in 2018, ex-midfielder and five-time Premier League winner Carrick has ventured into coaching.

He was an assistant manager to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United before acting as caretaker manager for three matches in 2021.

Carrick was then given his first permanent job at Middlesbrough in 2022, with whom he spent three seasons before his exit in June.

talkSPORT reported earlier in the week that the 44-year-old would be tempted with a return to United .

This comes amid the increasing pressure on Ruben Amorim , who has won only 19 of his 49 matches in charge.
