WINCHESTER, Tenn. (WSMV) - Driving home from a doctor’s appointment on August 7, 2024, retired deputy Dean Binkley merged onto the Highway 64 connector in Franklin County when he realized his blood sugar was dangerously low.

“I didn’t have any sweets,” Binkley told WSMV4 Investigates . “And I’m like, ‘Whew, I can feel it.’ I’ve got to get home.”

That, he said, was the last thing he remembered.

A dangerous drive, a mistaken assumption

Body camera footage from that day shows what happened next. A driver—who identifies as an out-of-state police officer—called 911 after spotting Binkley swerving across the highway.

“I’m telling you, man, I’ve never seen anybody drive like this,” the driver tells a trooper in the video.
