Indianapolis is currently enjoying an uptick in major new public artworks. So far this year, artists have painted murals that include two of the city's basketball icons and sculpted a shining celebration of water's life-giving properties.

What's more, several new projects are in the pipeline. The city of Westfield is planning an installation that will honor the people connected to the Underground Railroad. In Broad Ripple, a 30-foot sculpture at a high-profile intersection has generated both excitement and controversy.

Here are six big public art pieces that have recently been installed or will be soon.
