Ohio’s Republican leadership has reached a new low in their contempt for democracy, if Ohioans are to believe a statement Wednesday from House Speaker Matt Huffman.

Instead of following the constitutional mandate to create fair congressional districts with bipartisan input, Huffman claims they’ve been gathering public opinion between the cereal aisle and the deli counter.

In a stunning display of arrogance, Ohio GOP leaders have blown past their September 30th deadline to draw congressional maps with bipartisan support. And instead of acknowledging this failure, Huffman is offering excuses that would be comical if they weren’t so insulting to Ohio voters.

“I’m going to use a great line from the movie Treasurer of the Sierra Madre: Huffman is saying, ‘We don’t need no stinking maps,’ ”
