Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced she will sign five bills into law following a special session that adjourned in just two days, addressing federal budget cuts affecting New Mexico.
The backdrop of the session was the federal government shutdown in Washington, D.C., a concern repeatedly voiced by state lawmakers.
House Bill 1 allocates $162 million to various causes, including SNAP, food banks, school-based programs, and funding for local radio and television stations.
House Bill 2 provides affordable health insurance coverage for New Mexicans up to 400 percent over the poverty level, contingent on meeting other eligibility requirements.
Senate Bill 1 designates $50 million to support rural healthcare across the state.
