COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Family and friends of the 12-year-old who died from a rare brain-eating amoeba infection this summer will gather this weekend to honor him.

On Oct. 4, members of the community will gather at Altitude Trampoline Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate the life and legacy of Jaysen Carr, a 12-year-old student at Hand Middle School who passed this summer on what would have been his 13th birthday.

Jaysen’s parents, Ebony and Clarence Carr, previously sat down with WIS to discuss the life of Jaysen and their advocacy work to increase warnings and publicity about the risks that come with swimming in warm water.

Jaysen’s father, Clarence, said that the birthday party is open to the public and that Altitude was one of Jaysen’s favorite places.
