OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The only high school in Nebraska to be a finalist in a million-dollar competition is only 20 minutes outside of the metro.

Plattsmouth High School joined the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights Contest, not expecting much.

“The first email I was like, ahh, I don’t know if I want to sign up for that, and then I got another one, so I was like, why not?” said Luke Chadwell, the Activities and Athletics Director.

Taking that chance has already paid off.

Plattsmouth won $5,000 for a tailgate at an upcoming home game, and another $25,000 when they became a top 25 finalist.

That money and the potential million dollars, if they win, will go toward what school officials say is a long-overdue project.
