URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Thousands of books will be on sale -- beginning at just $1 -- as a Champaign-Urbana program works to raise money to provide free books to people incarcerated in Illinois.

The Urbana Champaign Books to Prisoners fundraising event will be held at the Independent Media Center. The IMC said there will be about 7,500-8,000 books for purchase, ranging from children’s books, young adult fiction and textbooks. The books will cost between $1-$2, with some "specially marked items." This year, organizers said there will also be a local string trio and "novel jewelry."

The money raised from the event will go towards paying for shipping books to incarcerated people across the state.
