On Wednesday morning, principal Jorge Valenzuela stopped by the McDonald’s before starting his school day. He wasn’t ordering anything – he went to track down a couple dozen high schoolers who, instead of heading straight from the border to school, took a detour to hang out at the restaurant down the street.
“When they see my car, they scatter,” he laughed. When he and the tardy students got back to the school building, he scolded them playfully and pointed them to their classrooms. ×
