ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The McMichael varsity football team is preparing for a big game this week without one of their teammates, who is recovering in the hospital after a serious crash.

Number 54, Camen Mizelle , was driving back from classes at Rockingham Community College when state troopers say his car was hit head-on by a distracted driver. After Mizelle got out of his car, it caught on fire. The state trooper who first responded to the scene said it was engulfed in flames.

Assistant Coach Dan Tart said Mizelle underwent successful surgery on his small and large intestines and is still hospitalized.

Tart recalled his initial thoughts when he got the news Wednesday.
