DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Authorities in Wisconsin are sharing results from a Labor Day weekend ATV enforcement campaign, and the numbers are up.
The Wisconsin DNR said wardens and sheriff deputies interacted with more than 1,600 operators and riders.
Of those, hundreds were given educational warnings, and others were arrested.
Authorities say the top three citations of the campaign were:
lack of helmet wear
not wearing a seatbelt
illegal highway operation
According to the DNR, there have been 34 fatal ATV and UTV crashes in the state this year alone.
Most of them were not wearing seatbelts or helmets, along with alcohol involvement and speed.
