A 36-year-old man who was convicted of human trafficking a 17-year-old runaway in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana but won a motion for a new trial now faces a federal indictment, according to court records obtained Thursday.
Xavier Dashea Washington was due in Orange County Superior Court this week for a retrial hearing but a fugitive warrant was issued for him because he was in federal custody.
Washington was indicted Sept. 3 on a felony count of sex trafficking of a minor. He is next due in federal court in Los Angeles for a pretrial conference on Oct. 17.
Washington was accused in the indictment of trafficking a 17-year-old girl between Aug. 9 and Aug. 13 in Anaheim.
