More than 800 volunteers across Oregon and southwest Washington participated in a Beach and Riverside Cleanup from Sept. 20-28, collecting nearly 10,000 pounds of litter and marine debris.

The annual event, organized by environmental nonprofit SOLVE and OnPoint Community Credit Union, aligned with three significant dates: International Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 20, National Public Lands Day on Sept. 27 and World Rivers Day on Sept. 28.

Together, volunteers cleaned up areas ranging from Oregon Coast beaches to inland rivers and urban neighborhoods.

Efforts included removing nearly 750,000 square feet of invasive plants, mulching and maintaining trees and preparing green spaces for the winter months.
