MANTEO, N.C. (WITN) - A person was shot and killed during a police response to suspicious activity in Manteo on Thursday afternoon.
Around 4:11 p.m., Manteo police responded to a possible crime happening in the 200 block of Mother Vineyard Road, Roanoke Island, with help from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a news release, officers were confronted by an armed person, and one of the officers fired their gun. Emergency Medical Services arrived, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the case.
No other details are available so far. The SBI says it will update if it receives additional information.
