TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Pima County School Superintendent Dustin Williams said mental health resources in schools are the backbone of a student’s education.

“If you ask the majority of students, ‘what is the number one thing that you want to see in schools?’ – all of them, resounding, say ‘we want more mental health,’” said Williams.

Now, Arizona schools are getting more resources. A new partnership between the Department of Education and The Jed Foundation, a suicide prevention non-profit, is bringing more resources to combat teen suicide in schools.

“It’s good to see Tom Horne and ADE change their tune,” said Williams. “They were against the words social, emotional learning, now they’re caring about kids and the suicide rates that are there.”
