Rite Aid has officially shut its doors nationwide, ending more than six decades as a staple in the U.S. pharmacy industry.

“All Rite Aid stores have now closed,” the retailer’s website reads. “We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support.”

The website now directs shoppers to locate their new pharmacy if their prescriptions were transferred elsewhere. It also includes resources for requesting records such as prescription and immunization history.

Years of decline

At its peak in the first quarter of 2022, Rite Aid operated 2,451 stores. By Sept. 2, 2025, that number had dwindled to just 89 locations across 12 states, according to reports . The final stores, in Washington and Oregon, closed Sept. 29.
