**Sussan Ley Condemns Manchester Synagogue Attack**

Opposition Leader Sussan Ley has condemned the recent terrorist attack on a synagogue in Manchester, calling it "despicable" and "beyond words." The attack occurred on Yom Kippur, a significant day in the Jewish calendar, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to four others.

In her statement, Ley expressed her "grief and shock" over the incident. She emphasized the sanctity of the day, stating, "To target worshipers and families as they gather together for the holiest period of the Jewish faith is despicable beyond words." Ley highlighted the fundamental right of all individuals to worship freely, saying, "All people, regardless of religion, have the right to worship in peace and should feel they can do so without fear or apprehension."

Ley extended her condolences to the British people, stating, "To Britons reeling from this act of terror on their streets, I know Australians extend their deepest sadness, solidarity, and compassion at this terrible time."

In other news, a significant defense agreement with Papua New Guinea is expected to be signed soon. The Pukpuk Treaty, which has received approval from PNG's cabinet, aims to strengthen the defense relationship between Australia and PNG. It will commit both nations to mutual defense in the event of military attacks and allow citizens from each country to serve in the other's defense forces.

Mike Hughes, the defense strategy director at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, commented on the treaty, stating that the exchange of personnel will help foster common values between the two nations. He noted, "Those are key elements of just a broader integration with our nearest neighbor, which speak to the deeper benefits of such a security arrangement that will have broader impacts on society."
