PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s been a week since raging floodwaters tore through the Globe-Miami area, leaving parts of the community under six feet of water. Three people were killed in the flooding, which also destroyed homes, businesses, and schools.

“This is the part that scares me,” said Seaneen Lira. “We wouldn’t have been able to get to her [8-year-old granddaughter] fast enough.” Lira and her family were not home at the time of the flood. She says if they were, it’s likely they wouldn’t have made it out.

For residents like Lira, the losses are personal and devastating.

“This month would’ve been twenty-six years we were here, and we paid off the house three years ago,” Lira said. Now, everything inside is gone.
