BUFFALO, N.Y. — A jury in Erie County on Thursday convicted 49-year-old Alfonzo D. Quinney of Buffalo of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree for a 2024 shooting that killed 28-year-old Elijah Mingo.

The verdict came after roughly four hours of deliberation following a four-day trial. Quinney was found guilty on one felony count of murder and one violent felony count of criminal possession of a weapon.

According to Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane, Quinney intentionally shot Mingo with an illegal firearm on the 100 block of Northland Avenue in Buffalo at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, 2024. Mingo was pronounced dead at the scene.
