DULUTH, Minn. — A ribbon-cutting was held today to celebrate the refreshed Incline Stairway Trail.
The event, organized by Duluth Parks and Recreation and the Duluth Preservation Alliance, features an interpretive hike up and down the stairway…
highlighting the installation of new interpretive signage as well as the historical designation of the Incline Stairway.
The stairway previously served as part of the historical Incline Railway, between 1891 and 1939.
“From top to bottom. It’s nine city blocks, and it’s about 500 feet of elevation,” said Matt Andrews, trails coordinator, City of Duluth Parks and Recreation. “While you’re doing those nine city blocks as well, it is open for anyone that’s able bodied enough to walk up and down stairs. It’s g
