Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has imposed an immediate ban on the sale of ‘Coldrif’ cough syrup within the state, following the tragic deaths of six children in Madhya Pradesh that are suspected to be linked to the medicine. The decision comes after health authorities in Chhindwara district in MP reported that all six children, aged between one and seven, suffered acute kidney failure, with the consumption of Coldrif syrup being the only common factor in their treatment.

Post-mortem analyses of the victims revealed the presence of a toxic industrial chemical, diethylene glycol, in their kidney tissues.
