San Jose State assistant volleyball coach Melissa Batie-Smoose lost her job over transgender player Blaire Fleming.

The former San Jose State University assistant women’s volleyball coach filed a lawsuit against the Board of Trustees of the California State University system, which the school is part of. She alleged that the university wrongfully suspended her last November in retaliation for her filing a Title IX complaint against the school and a transgender athlete on the team.

She filed a Title IX complaint that contained several allegations against the school and transgender player Blaire Fleming. She would find out about her suspension minutes before warm-ups for a home game against New Mexico State.
